Installing A Doorbell
Installing a doorbell will help anyone who has a lot of visitors, so they can always know when someone is at their front door. Knocks on the door can easily go unheard when the occupants of a house are busy dressing, cooking, cleaning, using the restroom or doing any number of things. People with doorbells, however, never leave their guests standing on the front door waiting for an answer. With the right equipment, it is fairly simple to install doorbell buttons in most homes. Doorbell buttons must be wired to a doorbell transformer, which steps down the 120-240-volt AC electrical power to a lower voltage, typically 3-30 volts. The doorbell transformer also connects to one of three terminals on the signaling device. If there is another doorbell button, such as near the backdoor, it is connected between the doorbell transformer and the third terminal on the signaling device. Before installing new doorbell buttons, it is important to turn off the electrical power before cutting the wires, even though the voltage is probably low. Installing chime doorbells uses the same process, but it's good to make a wiring schematic and put the same wires on the same terminals. If this sounds too complicated, though, there are professional handymen that can do the job in a few minutes. The convenience of having a doorbell is worth it.
